Week 4 NFL Betting - Games You Can’t Miss
Oct 3rd, 2009 by admin
Week 4 NFL betting is upon us. So far, the season has been nothing short of surprising, as we learned in weeks 1-3 that some of the most favored teams weren’t so hot after all. As for the losing teams, well, just remember that Week 3 of the 2009 NFL season was Detroit’s first win, breaking a losing streak that spanned more than a year. Bettors were also surprised when the Patriots lost their Week 2 game, while the Jets, Ravens, and Colts are still undefeated.
This week the sportsbooks will be a lot wiser than previous weeks. Lines and odds for Week 1 and 2 are notorious for being nothing more than guestimates, relying mostly on preseason analysis to balance the action. Weeks 3 and onward, on the other hand, have much more accurate lines and odds. This is because sportsbook linesmakers have seen at least 2 or more weeks of action, and have a better idea of how games will turn out. Additionally, they also know where the betting public likes to put their money, and adjust lines accordingly.
Week 4 NFL Betting Games You Can’t Miss
Week 4 has a number of great games that you definitely need to watch. Setup your Tivo, digital TV recorder, or figure out how to use split-screen, because you’re not going to be happy if you miss out a some of the following matchups.
- Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots - Sunday 10/4/2009 1:00 PM - This game promises to be like a heavyweight boxing championship. The Patriots have a decent team this year with a 2-1 record, while the underdog Ravens are still undefeated. The question is, do the Ravens have what it takes to battle one of the league’s best teams? We sure think so. In fact, many believe the Ravens, who are the underdog by +1.5 at most sportsbooks, will runaway with this game. The Patriots proved they were not invincible when they faced the Bears. Now, they’re going to have to go toe to toe with a fired up Ravens squad that has a ton of raw talent. This is easily the blockbuster game of the weekend, so make sure you tune in at 1:00 PM EST to catch all the action.
- Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns - Sunday 10/4/2009 1:00 PM - How about an all Ohio rumble? This weekend the Bengals clash with the Browns, in what most consider will be a lopsided contest in favor of the Bengals. Last weekend, we watched the Bengals edge out the highly favored Pittsburgh Steelers, 23-20, to the shock and awe of many sports bettors. This weekend, the Bengals face more modest competition from the Cleveland Browns, who are nationally ranked towards the back of the pack. This should be easy money for those that like the Bengals, and they should beat the -6/+6 spread without too much to trouble. If the Bengals win this contest, it will not only boost morale, but also their ranking towards the top 1/3 in the entire league, something that Cincinnati Fans would love to see.
- Detroit Lions vs. Chicago Bears - Sunday 10/4/2009 1:00 PM - Here’s another fun game: Detroit fans are praying to start a new “winning” streak, and would like nothing more than to crush the Bears. Chicago suffered a horrible loss last weekend, yet managed to beat the Patriots the week before. So, if Chicago comes with their A game, they should probably win. Otherwise, this will be another opportunity for the +10 underdog Lions to make a splash in the winning pond. Safe bet is with the Bears, but if you’re a gambling man, why not try the Lions for beating the spread?
- New York Jets vs. New Orleans Saints - Sunday 10/4/2009 4:05 PM - These teams have one thing in common, and no, it’s not that their host cities both begin with the word “new”. The each have an undefeated record, and are considered among the top 6 teams in the entire league. After your heart beat resumes from the Ravens/Patriots stampede, be sure to watch this game that features a hot to trot Saints team. The Saints have crushed every opponent so far this season, throwing sand in the eye of all the doubters who dismissed them as mediocre before the season started. Now, we’ll see just who IS the best team, in what promises to be a close game. At the moment, the sportsbooks see this one -7.5/+7.5 Saints/Jets respectively, but this game will be closer. If you bet the Jets, strap in, you’re going for a wild ride. If you bet the Saints, you’d better hope Drew’s arm is in top form!
- San Diego Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers - Sunday 10/4/2009 8:20 PM - Sunday night games have been awesome this season, and this week’s game will be no different. You’ve got the Chargers, who have a decent record so far this year (even though they been in a couple close ones), and then you have the Super Bowl Champs Pittsburgh Steelers, who really appear to be struggling. Many thought more of this team. Remember, though, there are still 13 weeks of regular season action, so the Fat lady has not sung. At the time of this post, the spread is +6.5/-6.5 Chargers/Steelers respectively. This is yet another game that should be much closer in reality. If the Chargers can bust out early and hold on, they just might cover the spread, yielding yet another upset defeat to the Steelers. Be sure you’ve got enough beer and nachos left to watch this one, it’s going to be good!
By the time this is all done, you could be a lot richer, or looking for a cardboard box to move into. Week 4 has all the drama we’d expect from the NFL and then some. In many ways, this is a decisive week that will prove whether the currently top ranked teams have what it takes to REMAIN top ranked teams. Either way, you can’t miss these games, even if you have to be outside mowing the lawn or closing the pool. It’s the digital age, so get a radio or portable device to keep track of all the action.
Good Luck from Bet-on-the-NFL.com!
