Marquette -6.5 over Rutgers (7:00 PM EST)
BOTN has had a pretty good feel for when to back the supremely coached Marquette Golden Eagles. Not only can we make a strong case for them here, we can make an equally strong case for fading the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. At 12-4 in conference and with just Rutgers and St Johns on deck, Marquette has a big chance to secure a double by in next week’s big East tournament. Now granted these games are on the road but both are very winnable and would save the Eagles from having to run the Big East gauntlet. The Eagles are 3-4 on the Big East road but the losses are at Cincinnati, Louisville, Georgetown, and Villanova. No shame there. Two of their three road wins are by 21+ and those have come against Rutgers types Seton Hall and South Florida. The Scarlet Knights got off on the wrong foot early in the season with some stuff involving the head coach and never recovered. They mailed it in long ago and have now lost four in a row and ten of their last eleven. The Knights are a horrific 0-7 vs the points in their L7 home games and just 1-4 in their L5 as a home dog. Add to the mix that Marquette has won the last six games in the series including last year’s 82-65 spanking and making Marquette an easy double-digit number is an easy call.
Recommendation: Marquette 75 Rutgers 59
