All eight series in board order
No.1 Chicago Bulls (-1600) vs No.8 Philadelphia 76ers (+1100), 1:05 PM EST
The 76ers cooled of considerably after their hot start and were forced to go 4-1 over down the stretch to snake into the eight hole behind New York. Bulls get what should be a well rest Derrick Rose back but his health will be factor throughout the playoffs …. but not in this series. Chicago won the season series 2-1 winning both the most recent meetings in March, both without Rose. Chicago kills Philly on the glass especially on the offensive end and that will be the difference as Chitown moves on with relative ease.
Prediction: Chicago in Five
No.2 Miami Heat (-1200) vs No.7 New York Knicks (+850), 3:30 PM EST
These teams haven’t met in the playoffs in more than a decade but there is no love lost between these two franchises. The Heat are predicted to walk through their first two series but the Knicks might very well give them all they want. The coaching change to Woodson turned the Knicks season around as Carmelo found a new gear and defense became somewhat of a priority. If the Knicks can get a split in Miami they’ll be in this the whole way against a Heat team that is basically .500 on the road. Heat might not be entirely healthy. Will Lebron take this over.
Prediction: Miami in Seven
No.3 Indiana Pacers (-700) vs No.6 Orlando Magic (+550), 7:05 PM EST
It’s been a strange year for the Orlando Magic with all the Dwight Howard nonsense. At one time (with Howard), Orlando had the fifth best record in the NBA. They’ve faded if not quit down the stretch and look to be just playing out the string. The Pacers have been rock solid all season long and could be poised to make some noise in the playoffs. Danny Granger is a star and Roy Hibbert has had a breakout year and should be able to do what his wants in the paint as Orlando has no size. They couldn’t have gotten a better matchup and if they are willing to kick a dog when it’s down, this one will be over quick.
Prediction: Indiana in Five
No.2 Oklahoma City (-600) vs No.7 Dallas Mavericks (+450), 9:30 PM EST
James Harden has been cleared to play after taking a big elbow to the head from Metta World Peace. He’s the NBA’s probable “Sixth Man of the Year” and an integral part of the OKC rotation. Dallas was really hurt by free agent defections and their championship hangover having an up and down year. In reality, they backed into the playoffs going 2-4 down the stretch and showing no “buy” signs that they’ll make any noise in the playoffs. Dallas might win a game or two at home but that’s it.
Prediction: Oklahoma City in Six
No.1 San Antonio (-2500) vs No.8 Utah Jazz (+1500), 1:05 PM EST
Prediction: Spurs in Six
No.3 LA Lakers (-235) vs No.6 Denver Nuggets (+185), 3:30 PM EST
Prediction: Lakers in Six
No.5 Atlanta Hawks (+120) vs No.4 Boston Celtics (-140), 7:05 PM EST
Prediction: Boston in Six
No.4 Memphis Grizzlies (-150) vs No.5 LA Clippers (+130), 9:05 PM EST
Prediction: Memphis in Six
