Djokovic beats Nadal in five sets in epic Aussie Final
This just over at about 2:00 AM Aussie time. Novak Djokovic beat Rafael Nadal 7-5 in the fifth set in 5 hours and 53 minutes to capture the longest (in time) major final in men’s tennis history. It was Djokovic’s seventh straigh win over Nadal, his third straight major, his third Australian Open, his fifth major overall. This was a great match with all kinds of ebbs and flow. The quality of the tennis was incredible. Djokovic becomes the fourth player in tennis history to win three straight majors and he’ll look to complete the Joker-Slam in the French. Really an amazing match.
In last night’s UFC on Fox action, Rashad Evans, Chael Sonnen, and Chris Weidman all won by unanimous decision in the three nationally televised bouts. Evans pitched a five-round shutout against Phil “Mr Wonderful” Davis inning 50-45 on all five judges cards. Sonnen had a much tougher time with Michael Bisping than expected winning 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 in a match many thought was dead even. Despite cutting 32 pounds in 11 days to take the fight on shorth notice, Weidman still had more in the tank at the end in his win over Demian Maia. Favorites dominated the night winning eight of ten bouts. BOTN correctly picked nine of the ten including Lavar Johnson at +170. A $100 player at BOTN would have made $830 betting $100 a fight. A complete recap will be up at 8:00 PM EST tonight.
In other sports news from Saturday, Tiger Woods finished T3 in Abu Dhabi after shooting a final round 72 on Sunday. Kansas and Georgetown were top ten losers, Murray State romped Eastern Illinois to remain unbeaten. Towson State snapped a 41-game win streak with a five-point win over Wilmington. The Lakers fell to 1-7 on the road losing at Milwaukee. The NFL Pro Bowl is today in Hawaii with the kick at 7:00 PM EST. The NFC is -4 and the total 72 1/2. The NHL All-Star game is also today starting at 4:00 PM EST from Ottawa. Team Chara is a -106 favorite over Team Alfredsson. The total is a whopping 19.
It’s getting late so we’ll go right to the free plays which have been rolling of late. Good luck and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
(NBA) Toronto at New Jersey Over 183
This Toronto’s fourth game in six nights, the Net’s third game in five nights so no real legs edge. That said, three of the last four Barney games have gone over the total ot coincidently after the return of best player Andrea Bargnani. Toronto is off a terrible shooting night in Denver and figure to get healthy against a team allowing opponents 98.8 ppg on almost 48% from the field. The Nets discovered the tree on the last road trip and have picked up their scoring. The teams met January 6th, a 97-86 win (181, over). This one ends closer to 200 than 180. Play the Over.

(NBA) Lakers +1.5 over Minnesota
Did you ever think that “the T-Wolves are favored over the Lakers” would ever leave your lips in this lifetime ??? Minnesota is favored and the Lakers are 1-7 on the road after last night’s 100-89 loss in Milwaukee. This is LA’s second in a row after two nights off, this is Minny’s third in five nights. No real applicable techs here as both teams are in unusual spots. The Lakers are 3-0 after straight up losses when favored but 0-3 following a double-digit loss. The Wolves are a 50-50 prob at home and as a favorite. Give us the desperate 11-9 Lakers who play their next eight of nine on the road vs a surprise Minnesota team that is really playing with house money.

(NBA) Atlanta -2 over New Orleans
Both teams play their third game in five nights so the fatigue factor is a wash. The Hawks just keep doing what they do despite some key injuries. The ATL is 10-3 straight up in their last 13 and while they are just 7-6 against the number, they’re 2-0 this year and 14-7 in their L21 as a road fave of three or less. The Hornets play hard but are just dearth of talent. They’re 2-15 straight up in their L15 but they’ve covered five straight and thumped the Magic 93-67 in their last. If this were 5-8 points, we’d probably be looking at the other side but here we’re just asking the Hawks to win. Take Atlanta.

(CBB) Montana -4 over Portland State
The Grizzlies have won the last five games in the series, covering three, and winning the last two here. They won the first meeting in Montana by 11 and are 3-1 on the Big Sky road with all three wins coming by 14+ points. The Grizz have covered seven of eight in 2012. Portland State is non-descript and with no trends or tendancies either way other than this is not their best matchups and that they’ve been getting dominated on the glass. The Vikings haven’t beaten Montana in a while and have shown no signs that it will happen today. Lay the points.
