UCLA -3.5 over St Johns

Both teams have battled through turbulent seasons. UCLA got off to a terrible start and finally had to eject on their best player Reeves Nelson. The Bruins have gotten better in Pac Ten play and are a handful at home but just haven’t figured out how to win on the road. The Johnnies were screwed from the start having lost eight seniors from last year’s team. Steve Lavin has battled prostate cancer and the Storm, though immensely talented with the kids that they have, are down to just five scholarship players. In the end, thinking that the Bruins overcome their road problems with a win here. UCLA is 5-1 as a bully and at this stage of the game, don’t think twice of kicking a guy when their down. It’s happened to them.

Arizona +3.5 over Washington

We’ve done real well with Arizona so we’ll stay with them here in a true revenge spot. In fact, the Wildcats have covered eight straight road games, are 10-4 vs the points in Pac Ten play and have won five straight since getting beat 69-67 by the Huskies on their home floor January 28th. Washington is about as dependable as Oklahoma rain and you just never know what type of effort to expect. Zonas last three conf losses by one or two points and conference dogs of less than four are 17-10. It’s senior day for the huskies but that’s mitigated by having only one senior that plays any substantial minutes. Arizona straight up.

Mississippi State -3.5 over Auburn

This is a big game for the Bulldogs who have to be a bubble team at this point and like most boxers, don’t want to leave it in the hands of the judges with losses to Auburn on the resume. The Bulldogs already are working on BAD back-to-back losses to Georgia and LSU and can’t afford a vapor lock here. The teams met at State with MS winning 91-88 (-12) two weeks ago. Auburn has some pretty good ATS numbers but having seen them play a number of times, the Tigers are not very good and can thank opponents taking their foot off the pedal rather than taking credit for good play. This is an interesting matchup between the 20-5 UT Arlington Mavericks out of the Southland and the 21-4 Weber State Wildcats out of the Big Sky. The Mavs don’t even hit the extra board all that often so there are no numbers to really look at but all five of the losses cam in non-conf play to the likes of Baylor (18), Texas (10), Tulsa (5), and Utah State (4) so they can play. Weber by comparison beat Utah State by 10 and their losses wereto bYU, Cal, and St Marys. In the end, the Wildcats are 14-0 at home and the Mavs aren’t getting enough here to rate a look.
