Vegas Sports Books win $5 million of $93 million wagered on Super Bowl XLVI

The Super Bowl XLVI rematch between Eli Manning’s New York Giants and Tom Brady’s New England Patriots generated heavy gambling action in Las Vegas, resulting in the second biggest “handle,” or betting total, in Nevada over the past 10 years.
Gamblers wagered $93,889,840 across the state’s 184 legal sports books, according to Frank Streshley of the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Despite widespread predictions that the wiseguys in Sin City would take a big financial loss on the game after installing the Pats as 3 point favorites, the state says Nevada’s legal sports books won $5,064,470 on the game.
Those sports books lost $2,573,103 when the Giants’ upset previously unbeaten Pats at Super Bowl XLII in 2008, the only time the state’s sports books lost money on the Big Game over the last 10 years.
This year’s $93,889,840 handle tops the $87,491,098 wagered on the Green Bay Packers’ win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in last year Super Bowl XLV.
But it still trails the $94,534,372 bet on the Steelers’ win over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL in 2006, before the bottom dropped out of the U.S. economy and a lingering economic recession wiped out millions of jobs.

Kansas State -18 over Texas Tech
The Wildcats are 0-4 as a conference home favorite so we really had to think about laying this boatload of points. That said, K State did beat the Red Raiders by 22 in Waco causing 24 turnovers and holding Tech to just 37% shooting from the field. Tech has done it’s best work on the road where they are 4-1 as an away mutt but you have to take into account that the Raiders are winless in conference (0-10) and have lost by less than double-digits just twice, one by 8 and once by 9 points. Frank Martin is not the most compassionate man on earth. Lay it.

Providence +8 over Villanova
Providence is 2-9 in the Big East, Nova 3-8 so there’s not much to chose from here. The Friars have covered three straight losing their last two by three points, Villanova has covered the last three game they’be been favored in so ….
only one of the Wildcats wins were by the eight points we get tonight and Providence has to think that they have a big shot to win this game as they snapped a seven-game series losing streak with a 93-68 blowout in last year’s meeting. This game will likely be decided at the wire. Take the points.

Milwaukee -7 over Phoenix
The Suns play their 5th game in seven nights while the Bucks have had the last two nights off. Teams with extra rest playing a team that played the night before are 23-10 ATS which figures big tonight. The Suns have won three of four and are a very respectable 4-3 L7 on the road but the Bucks are a perfect 3-0 this year as a home fave of 6-9 and a perfect 4-0 ATS in games after allowing more than 105 points. Stiles always has his team playing hard and generally gets the most out of the least. Lay the points.

(NHL) Islanders at Philadelphia Over 5.5
The Flyers need to find a way to not get buried off the git go. In their last two games, Philly gave up six scores to the Devils in the first 30 minutes and also dug themselves a hole vs the Rangers giving up four early markers. Philly does have a 13-2 edge on the homeis in the series including 6-1 L7 on this ice but much prefer the total to the side. The Islanders have seen three of their last four go over the total, are 12-4 over after allowing 4+ goals in the previous game, and also fit the infamous 22-10 over in L32 on Tuesday nights. The Flyers are 14-8 over playing sub .500s and 11-5 high off a loss of 2+ goals. Play the Over.
