A Trio of Undefeated Teams + The Vikings
Oct 28th, 2009 by admin
Well here we are, 7 weeks into the 2009-10 NFL season, and the top teams are starting to rise to the top. Going into Week 8, we have 3 undefeated teams, each 6-0, and the Favre powered Vikings have a very respectable 6-1 record. Could Favre make it to the Super Bowl this year, and become the only quarterback to have retired multiple times, and still pull off a come-back Super Bowl win? Time will tell. On the way to the big game, however, Favre has plenty of competition. The other top 3 teams are looking strong, and some are already predicting Super Bowl 44 contestants (and we’re not even in November yet
).
2009-2010 NFL Undefeated Teams as of the end of Week 7
Denver Broncos: 6-0 - The fans at Invesco Field can’t cheer loud enough for the Broncos, who currently boast a 6-0 record. This was a pleasant surprise for Denver fans, who knew that their team was good, but not this good. The point man for the Broncos has been Quarterback Kyle Orton. So far, he’s passed for 1465 yards in total, with a strong 63.9% completion percentage. Add to that a 0.5% interception rate, and its clear that Orton’s powerful arm is doing an amazing job commanding the Broncos offensive machine. This Sunday they’ll be in Baltimore to face the Ravens.
Indianapolis Colts: 6-0 - Peyton has outdone his brother Eli (of the Giants) yet again: he’s taken the Colts to the top 3 in the entire league, and has done so with gusto. Peyton has throw for 1880 Yards, with 156 completions, giving him a 72.6% completion rate overall. Unlike his counterpart at the Broncos, however, Manning has a 1.9% interception rate, which is still very low all things considered. Manning can also thank the efforts of Joseph Addai, who leads the rushing unit with 274 yards and 4 touch downs. Last weekend they crushed the Rams 42-6 (Good Grief…), and will be riding high when they face the Houston Texans during Week 8 play. Anyone for a Broncos-Colts AFC playoff?
New Orleans Saints: 6-0 - WOW. Now here’s a team with Super Bowl potential, at least according to many sports commentators. The holier-than-thou Saints have crushed every opponent so far, save a close one with the Miami Dolphins last weekend. The man at the stick: Drew Brees, who has played a game of catch with his receivers so far this season, throwing 132 completions in 1698 yards, 14 of which were touch downs. At the other end of Brees’ lobs is Marques Colston, who has caught 30 passes for 466 yards with 5 touch downs. The Saints’ running game isn’t half bad either, even though their strength is clearly in the passing game. Oh, and by the way, the Saints lead the league in average points per game (39.7), and yards per game (427.3). They also hold the number 3 spot for rushing yardage (154.5). Looks like they have more than enough power behind their punch for an NFC title and possibly the Super Bowl.
Honorable Mention: Minnesota Vikings 6-1: Brett Favre should be in the nursing home, but lieve it or not, he’s still out on the gridiron throwing the football around. A 6-1 record is nothing to shake a stick at, and to be sure, he’s won as many games as the other undefeated, with a 1 loss hiccup. We’re thinking about a Saints/Vikings NFC battle, but it’s still too early to tell.
Conclusion: Sure these teams are probably a safe bet against weaker opponents, but just wait until they’re faced with competition from the ranks just below them. Is it possible to go undefeated the entire season and win it all? Yes, example New England Patriots. Then again, sometimes losing a game is good for regrouping and focusing on the all important post season, when winning really counts. Until then, Broncos, Saints, and Colts fans couldn’t be happier with the results they’re seeing.
Good Luck NFL Betting!
